Abstract:
There are a number of reasons why the clinical quality measures (CQMs) may not calculate the way you expect. Here are the two most common:
- The CMS description doesn't match the specifications required by the measure. For example the description CMS provides for NQF 0086 (POAG Optic Nerve Evaluation) states "one or more office visits," the specification actually required two or more office visits.
- Providers interpret the CMS description differently than intended. For example, some providers feel that NQF 0055 (Diabetes: Eye Exam) should count 92xxx codes, but the specification only allows for certain 992xx codes.
As an ONC-ACB 2014 Edition certified EHR, OfficeMate/ExamWRITER is bound to calculate CQMs based on the specifications and not the descriptions.
Eyefinity endeavors to make CQM coding as transparent as possible and mitigate any misdirection or misinterpretation. To determine how each CQM is calculated, please refer to the "Documenting MIPS Quality Measures in ExamWRITER (2017)" article.
